1) The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Of course Eckarte Tolle must be on this list. I recommend this book to anyone who is ready to embrace the core aspects of the spiritual path, which is living in the present moment. Keeping the mind in the now is an on going and difficult task, which takes practice and commitment. Tolle does a great job of not just introducing the barriers that keep the mind running, but also pulls you along the path of how to enter the now by making you question the views of you this world and yourself. 2) Freedom From the Known by Jiddu Krishnamurti
With any spiritual journey there is one important thing to remember and that is to embrace the unknown. In Freedom From the Known, Krishnamurti does an excellent job of reminding us that the freedom we seek is within and it comes by creating our own path. Spiritual growth is often not easy, but hopefully this book can help you see the barriers that have been stopping you from fully trusting and embracing where the journey within is trying to lead you. 3) The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer
This is great book for those ready to deconstruct part of the identity known as the ego. The Untethered Soul helps in self realization by slowly dissipating the layers of the ego that keep up disconnected. Only by letting go of everything that is not truly us, can we being embracing the person that we were all along. As Michael Singer puts it, we are not the voice of the mind but the one that hears it. 4) Be Here Now by Ram Dass
Be Here Now is on this list because it is a spiritual classic and a personal favorite. This book has a unique presentation of insight which is both visually and spiritually appealing. It is a beautiful combination of illustration and wisdom that constantly reminds me not just to be in the present moment, but of the uniqueness and joy, that exists within in it. With that being said, it is one of those books that you can flip to any page and find the very thing you are looking for whether it be art, insight, or both. Click here to view Be Here Now on Amazon.
5) The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
If you like your insight in the form of storytelling, then The Celestine Prophecy for you. As the story in the book unfolds, so do nine profound insights that are the key to a spiritual existence here on Earth. This book reminds me of The Alchemist, simply because of the way that the information is presented. The search for something outside of us is just an indicator of the need to actually point that attention inwards. This book does an excellent job of illustrating that search and the barriers that come along with it. Click here to view The Celestine Prophecy on Amazon.
6) Search Inside Yourself by Chade-Meng Tan
Of all the "How to" books out there, Search Inside Yourself is one of my favorites because it is the beginners guide to meditation and mindfulness. We all know that we must change ourselves first in order to change the world, but how exactly do we go about doing that? The answer is to first go within. This book offers a simplistic yet direct approach of navigating the world within ourselves. I recommend this book to anyone who not only wants to go down the path of mindfulness, but who also needs the facts and evidence to back it up (because of an ever wandering analytical mind).

8) Letting Go: The Pathway to Surrender by David R. Hawkins
Of all the books on this list, Letting Go by Dr. David R. Hawkins has to be one of my favorites. Letting go of thoughts, emotions, anything, is something that I constantly struggle with but this book has helped me to understand what exactly I am holding onto and why. We are constantly being told to "let it go" yet we are left figuring out the letting process on our own. This is another book backed with facts and research to give anyone looking to let go a more concrete and applicable approach to the concept of letting go. Click here to view Letting Go on Amazon.
9) Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu
As far as classics go, Tao Te Ching takes the cake on this list. Written around 4th century B.C. (maybe sooner), this book offers insight on topics such as balance, compassion, and life in general that are still applicable to this day. Its one of those books that you keep on coming back to and keep getting what you need from it every time. It is a great book for beginners because it lays the foundation for how both spiritual and philosophical thought applies to everyday life. Click here to view Tao Te Ching on Amazon.

In her book, Bernstein lays out a 40 day guide of different practices and self - reflexive exercises.
